The L3Harris Clip-On Night Vision Device - Long Range, commonly referred to as the CNVD-LR or M124LR is known to be at the top of its class. The Utilization of a Gen III Autogated L3Harris Unfilmed Image Intensifier Tube allows for the best in light amplification that is available today. With a minimum figure of merit (FOM) of 2376, the CNVD-LR will be an answer to many night-time engagements when a long gun is employed. The CNVD-LR can be utilized both as a weapons mounted platform or in front of a daytime spotting scope to allow night time observation of targets that are typically out of reach for standard helmet mounted night vision devices with a magnifier.
The CNVD-LR is best utilized at about 8-10x depending on the night, but can be pushed further if need be. But, one must understand that the higher the magnification on the day time optic the quicker you will notice a decrease in performance via the resolution of the output window. Target PID distances will vary substantially depending on the amount of ambient light or active Infrared (IR) Illumination, but 500 yards is pretty standard and commonly available, properly paired with ample illumination of some kind.
The CNVD-LR can utilize a CR123A or AA battery, and is lighter than almost every device in its category. It is recoil mitigated to 7.62 Nato and will provide battery life of >16hrs at not freezing temperatures.
